Brown Alpaca

Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on flat surfaces in the andes of Southern Peru, Northern Bolivia, Ecuador, and Northern Chile.  They were bred for their fiber.  alpacas are classified as camelids.
Alpaca fleece is similar to sheep's wool, but it is warmer, not prickly, and contains no lanolin.  This makes it hypoallergenic.  It is soft and glossy similar to hair.  I bought some dark brown yarn to crochet a hat.
